3 Teams competing in the AAS International CanSat Competition
CanSat 2025 Launch
Yearly, SHC sends 3 teams of 10 students to compete in the competition. Members (usually pulled from the Two Month Program) get the opportunity to gain hands-on engineering experience working with mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
The 2025-2026 CanSat competition is to design a guided paraglider descent payload. The payload is required to deploy from its container at 80% apogee and descent at a rate of 5m/s using a paraglider. The payload must then autonomously steer to a target zone and deploy an egg payload 2m above the ground. The payload must also record the paraglider deployment and ground during flight. This year's teams, Vortex, Skywarp, and MetalHawk are actively working towards their environmental testing due May and preparing for competition in June.
The 2024-2025 CanSat competition was to design and build an Auto-gyro descender payload. The payload was required to deploy from a container at 75% of its maximum apogee and descend at a rate of 5m/s using an auto-gyro. The payload was also required to record the deployment, and record the ground with a spin-stabilized camera.
